If I were them, I'd agree, 'cause it'd pay me for all the man hours I put into creating that product. "Why shouldn't Nvidia be allowed to charge people to use their product?" - Just Like Chaos Group with Vray, they put a lot of effort into their product, and I'm sure they feel like they should be compensated. I guess a better way to put it is like this: Had it not be for that one guy (I forgot his username) posting on the forums, no one would know about Mental Ray being pay-to-use until 2018's release day.Īlso, I'm not too thrilled with paying for Mental Ray myself, but they are a business and the logical thing a business would do is make money off of a service or product that they provide nothing that hasn't been done before. It's worth a shot, 'cause I'm not impressed with the lack of transparency on Nvidia/Autodesk's part when they both decided to do this. 
Not to mention the delay between switching between windows, that still exists from 2017, but it's not as bad.)Ībout Mental Ray, if you want to voice your opinion to Autodesk, then here's an idea that may captur. (What with the many multiple UI issues, and unfinished UI implementation.
I do like 3ds Max 2018 more than 3ds Max 2017 (the attempt to make the UI more friendlier, and it doesn't crash every 10 seconds), but 3ds Max 2018 has quite a long way to go before the word "perfect" crosses my mind. I never said the the circumstances were perfect, nor did I say that 3ds Max 2018 is perfect.
